Beliefs

Simply put, we believe biblical Christianity as the Church has believed throughout the centuries. If you need more details, then read on.

More specifically, our perspective is Wesleyan. (Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with the word “Wesleyan”–few people actually use the word. We only use it in a setting like this.) The key distinctive of the Wesleyan perspective is one of hope and restoration. We believe that God wants to heal and renew what is broken in this world. That includes what is broken in each of us. He wants to free us from a life of consuming selfishness and make it possible for us to truly love others. God frees us so we can be his agents, restoring what is broken in the world around us.

We try not to argue about fringe issues. Unlike core issues, fringe issues are the things that really don’t matter in the larger scheme of things. For example, we don’t fight over the method of baptism. Pastor Steve prefers immersion, but he will dunk, spritz, or pour. We don’t let fringe issues polarize us. However, on core issues, such as the Jesus being the son of God, we will not compromise.

Core beliefs

Just as the “fine print” lawyers write is very specific to avoid misinterpretation, this statement of belief is stated in careful, specific theological language. Like “lawyer language,” this might be difficult to digest if you aren’t familiar with this sort of thing. If you have any questions, contact us. We’d be glad to help you grasp what could be confusing to you.

  • We believe in one God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
  • We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.
  • We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.
  • We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
  • We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
  • We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
