We are part of the Church of the Nazarene. You don’t have to be a Nazarene (or a Christian, or anything else) to attend Cadence. Everyone is welcome–the Church of the Nazarene is not exclusive. Our allegiance is to Christ and his worldwide, historical church, and our affiliation with this worldwide church gives us a connection in the bigger scheme of God’s church. Here’s what being Nazarene means to us:
Worldwide
More members of the Church of the Nazarene live outside of the United States than within our borders. We are a wonderfully diverse, multicultural church. Cadence is part of a global movement of hospitals, universities, schools, and churches. We join hands to spread a message of hope and renewal to the entire world.
Historical Roots
Although the Church of the Nazarene as a movement is over 100 years old, our roots go back to the days of Jesus and the very first Christian church. Just as the first believers sought to live to a spiritual rhythm in Jesus, so did the founders of the Nazarenes at the end of the 19th century. The denomination formed to recapture the focus of Christianity on renewal and hope. Cadence shares this legacy of “let’s focus on what really matters.”
A Theology of Hope and Renewal
By definition, Christians agree on the core teachings of the Bible. However, there are many different angles they use to view this truth. Although we value dialogue with other perspectives, we believe our theological heritage best captures the heart of Jesus. To put it simply:
God made the world it was good. We broke it. God is in the process of making our lives and our world good again. There is hope for you.
The Church of the Nazarene in Morgantown
Cadence joins two other Nazarene Churches in Morgantown. Morgantown First has been sharing the love of Jesus in downtown Morgantown since 1935. Pierpont Nazarene (across the interstate from Glenmark Center) has been serving the Cheat Lake area since 1979. Our Morgantown churches reflect a portion of the broad styles of ministry in the Church of the Nazarene. With over 100 years of combined ministry in the Morgantown area, we are excited about continuing this legacy in a fresh way at Cadence.
